Description

Company is sometimes misspelled because students aren’t sure how to spell the /ʌ/ in the first syllable or the /ə/ in the second syllable. My student recently had trouble reading this word, pronouncing it “comPANy” instead of “COMpany” with the stress on the first syllable.

Here’s an outline of a word study into this family of related words. We’ll learn from the word family. Your students will see the structure (morphology) and learn about the history and origin of company and its connection to bread. ??

Talk about these words with students using the graphic. Then continue to the matrix, writing word sums, and some sentences.
