Description

Let’s face it. Some spelling concepts are more challenging than others, especially if students are stuck in sound-it-out mode. The <wr> digraph is one of those spellings kids can’t sound out. We don’t pronounce the <w>. It’s a digraph, two letters pronounced as one sound /r/.

WR Digraph Reading, Spelling, and Writing Activities  This recently updated resource includes a variety of activities to help students practice and become familiar with the WR digraph. From a spelling graphic to a digraph word sort and a reading fluency game, this printable resource offers engaging opportunities for students to work on their reading, spelling, and writing skills.

Use <wr> words to make silly sentences, add suffixes to <wr> bases, and label pictures of <wr> digraph words. The dictation phrases are handy for no-prep spelling practice. You can use them as “sentence stems” that students add to, creating complete sentences.

Look up words from the graphic. Learn about the <wr> digraph from Etymonline.com. The graphic can become part of a digraph section of a bulletin board.
