Writing with a Tutor
A Writing Tutor for Dyslexic Students
A writing tutor for dyslexic students starts with what the student knows. What skills do they have? What do they need? As a new skill is taught, I watch for it to become easy before adding anything else. I fill in the skills your student is missing. Meanwhile, writing phrases, writing sentences, and writing paragraphs becomes doable.
Students learn some grammar while adjusting and editing sentences. Short writing tasks build their experience. As a result, the writing process is familiar. A writing tutor for dyslexic students improves writing confidence.
When they realize their skills have improved and the once-hard tasks are easier, their attitude about themselves changes. Their attitude about learning changes too.
Instead of only choosing smaller or less mature words, students use variety in their word choices. They’ll think through how best to phrase what they want to say. Their fear of filling a blank page shrinks.
We’ll use a variety of activities, adding to their experience and replacing gaps with skills.
A Writing Tutor Works on Spelling Too
Spelling won’t hold back the student. While we work on writing, they’ll also learn ways to manage the spelling issues. They’ll also learn spelling concepts they’re missing.

Students practice editing and adjusting sentences.
Reading, spelling, and writing are keys to literacy. It does make a difference.
