A Dyslexia Tutor

What to Look for in
a Dyslexia Tutor
An effective dyslexia tutor adapts to each student. Some students need only reading or spelling help. Many need both. Frequently, writing skills are weak.
Some students struggle with processing or attention issues. The Equipping Minds program can strengthen those weaknesses.
A dyslexia tutor needs to understand how dyslexia impacts reading, spelling, and writing issues.
Beyond those skills, students may need more time to process or understand instructions. It’s important to relate to their personality, to recognize when they need review and when they need a break with a game.
Reading & Spelling Tutor
A dyslexia tutor teaches students reading and spelling tools for literacy. Specifically:
- reading fluency
- reading comprehension
- spelling accuracy
- morphology (word structure)
- etymology (word origin, which impacts spelling)
- phonology (voiced sounds/phonemes)
Students need these skills for real world demands.
Parent Feedback
Our daughter has been working with Laure for 3 years. She started a struggling, frustrated reader and is now reading on grade level and enjoys picking up a book to read on her own. I cannot adequately express the joy it has brought my heart to watch that transformation in our daughter. If your student is struggling with reading, spelling or writing, I would highly recommend Laure. She has been such a gift to us, our home school and our daughter.

A Tutor for Writing
A writing tutor for dyslexic students starts with what the student knows. What skills do they have? What do they need? As a new skill is taught, I watch for it to become easy before adding anything else. I fill in the skills your student is missing. Meanwhile, writing phrases, writing sentences, and writing paragraphs becomes doable.
Parent Testimonial
Laure gave my son a toolbox filled with a unique set of tools and taught him how to use them. He now carries these tools with him everywhere he goes knowing that dyslexia does not have the final word on his success.
We are proud of our son for working hard and thankful that Laure was available to teach him online after her family relocated. She has truly made an impact on my family and I wholeheartedly recommend trusting her with your student. Nichole H.
Equipping Minds Tutor
Issues with working memory, attention, or processing impact learning. Equipping Minds is a program to strengthen visual and auditory skills. Using exercises and games, it strengthens cognitive flexibility.
Does your student have difficulty:
- Remembering 2-3 step directions?
- Staying on task to complete it?
- Remembering math facts or steps to math problems?
- Forgetting a word they’ve previously read?
- Expressing themselves when speaking or writing?
- Processing visual or auditory information?
Parent Testimonial after 10 Weeks of Equipping Minds
Just wanted to send a quick note to say thank you for being C’s tutor. I am very grateful that our paths crossed. She is showing wonderful improvement at school. She went up a letter grade in each subject, with the exception of social studies. She has a “C” in Reading and a “B” in Writing and Math! Grades aren’t our end all, be all, but I think it’s a testament to what all she’s learning while working with you. I can’t wait to watch how she continues to flourish and grow. You have made such an impact. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
